Firewall Dashboard

Scorpion Software Corp. Firewall Dashboard

I read in various blogs about the Firewall Dashboard Beta from Scorpion Software so I decided to give it a try. I initially did not get it to install. The installation procedure was upset that it could not find a MSDE instance on my C drive. My system boots off of an old Promise ATA RAID drive and it came up as my D drive when I set it up initially. So I sent the folks at Scorpion Software an email. They were not going to get around to fixing this problem for awhile so they recommended a registry hack to fake out the installation procedure. That kind of worked but only got me by the first error message. The second error message complained about not finding osql.exe on my C drive. So I copied the directory containing osql.exe over to my C drive and re-ran the installation procedure. The installation worked and now I am getting daily reports. The reports are cool. Outside of my son’s laptop my server is getting very few attacks. That’s nice to know. The report showed that most of my attacks are coming from my son’s PC via Netbios. So I now know I need to disable Netbios over TCP on my son’s wireless connection. I am not sure how much the Firewall Dashboard will cost but it is pretty slick and simple way to check out your internet connection for attacks and misconfigured components.
