RE: Distribution Release: Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

Yup! I downloaded this puppy. I have been pretty happy with Ubuntu 5.10 so I was curious what 6.06 would bring. Actually I have not found anything significant to me. In fact it seemed a little slower. I used azureus and left it on for an additional four hours till I have given as much as I had received.

  1. I finally decided to figure out how to use my laptop with Ubuntu. The problem is that Ubuntu does not work with the default livecd setup. I ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, took the defaults, and started the xserver. It worked but the 1440×900 resolution was not an option.

I also started it in safe graphics mode(i.e. vesa) and it started up without problems.

The biggest improvement in my testing process was changing the default boot parameters for my laptop. Now it looks for a boot disk in the CD-ROM before booting from the hard drive. The default boot parameters allowed me to change the boot location but the prompt was too fast for me most of the times I tried.
